Our Mission & Vision
The convictions and commitments that shape every decision, every program, and every act of care within our Pastoral Charge.
Called to Proclaim,
Nurture, and Serve
"The Whitbourne Pastoral Charge exists to proclaim the love of God in Jesus Christ, to nurture a community of faith and compassion, and to respond with care to the needs of all people."Whitbourne Pastoral Charge Mission Statement
This mission is not a slogan — it is a calling. It asks us to look outward and inward simultaneously: outward to our neighbours in Trinity Bay South who need practical care and genuine community, and inward to our own spiritual lives, ensuring we are nourished and grounded enough to give freely of ourselves.
Everything we do — Sunday worship, pastoral visits, youth programs, community meals — flows from this threefold commitment to proclaiming, nurturing, and serving.
Three Pillars of Our Mission
Proclaim
We share the good news of God's love through preaching, teaching, music, and the creative arts. Our worship services are crafted to be meaningful, accessible, and spiritually nourishing — drawing on the wisdom of scripture and the insights of contemporary faith.
We proclaim not only in the sanctuary but in how we treat one another, how we speak about our neighbours, and how we engage with the world beyond our walls.
Nurture
Faith is not a static possession but a living relationship that must be tended. We nurture the faith of our congregation through pastoral care, small group studies, seasonal observances, sacraments, rites of passage, and the practice of honest, questioning dialogue.
We are especially committed to nurturing the faith of children and youth — recognizing that how we welcome and form young people today shapes the church of tomorrow.
Serve
Service is the visible face of our faith. We serve our community through pastoral visitation, community meals, emergency support, collaboration with local agencies, and advocacy for those whose voices are too often unheard.
We are guided by the conviction that caring for our neighbours — especially the most vulnerable — is not an optional add-on to church life, but its very heart.
A Beacon of Hope
and Reconciliation
"We envision a Pastoral Charge that is a beacon of hope and reconciliation — where lives are transformed by faith, all are valued and included, and the communities of Trinity Bay South flourish together."Whitbourne Pastoral Charge Vision Statement
Our vision looks ahead with confidence and humility. It does not promise a perfect institution, but rather a living community in motion — one that is always becoming more welcoming, more just, and more deeply rooted in genuine care for one another and for God's creation.
This vision holds together three essential hopes: that individual lives will be changed by faith; that no one will be left on the margins; and that the broader community around us will be healthier and more connected because we are here.
What We Are Working Toward
“And what does the Lord require of you?”
"To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
