Community Outreach
Serving our neighbours is not a program — it is a way of life. We are embedded in the daily fabric of Trinity Bay South.
Presence, Care,
and Practical Help
For generations, Whitbourne Pastoral Charge has been more than a place of Sunday worship. We have been present in our communities through the hard years and the good — present at bedsides and gravesides, in homes and halls, in the everyday moments that make up a life.
Our outreach is built on relationships, not programs. We start by listening. We ask what is needed. And then we show up — consistently, humbly, and without condition.
Whether someone is facing illness, financial hardship, grief, loneliness, or a sudden crisis, the Whitbourne Pastoral Charge community is there.
Areas of Community Care
Our outreach spans several areas of community need — each shaped by the realities of rural Newfoundland life.
Pastoral Visitation
Our minister and trained lay visitors make regular calls on individuals who are homebound, hospitalized, recently bereaved, or facing life transitions. No one should navigate difficult moments alone.
Food & Practical Support
We connect families experiencing food insecurity with local resources and, when needed, provide direct practical support. We believe that addressing physical needs is part of caring for the whole person.
Grief & Bereavement
Loss is woven into the fabric of every life. Our pastoral team and trained lay volunteers offer compassionate support to those grieving the death of a loved one, whether recently or long ago.
Emergency Support Network
Through our connections with local families, businesses, and service agencies, we maintain an informal network that can mobilize support quickly when a community member faces an unexpected crisis.
Seniors' Companion Program
Social isolation is a serious health concern for older adults in rural communities. Our volunteers make regular visits and calls to seniors living alone, providing meaningful companionship and a sense of connection.
Life Rites & Ceremonies
We offer meaningful pastoral support for baptisms, marriages, memorial services, and other significant life rites — helping families mark important moments with dignity, care, and community.
Partnerships &
Collaboration
We know that no single organization can meet all the needs of a community. That is why we actively partner with local schools, health centres, seniors' care providers, emergency services, and other faith communities in the region.
These partnerships allow us to refer people effectively, avoid duplication, and ensure that those in need find their way to the right resources quickly. They also allow us to combine resources for larger community events and initiatives.

Become a Community Volunteer
Our outreach ministry depends entirely on the generosity of volunteers. Whether you have a few hours a month or a few hours a week, your presence and care make a genuine difference in the lives of your neighbours.
We offer orientation and support for all volunteers. No prior experience in pastoral care or church ministry is needed — only a willing heart and a commitment to showing up.
Express Interest in Volunteering"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
